Patches doesn't die at the end of his quest in ds1 and seigmeyer isn't in ds3. The knight of catarina in ds3 is called seigward. This is what I was confused about. Patches is a from software meme recurring character. Siegward, while obviously a fan service for DS1 players, isn't canonically siegmyer.

I did exactly what I also did in normal DS1 - gave Siegmeyer his 3 ♥♥♥♥♥♥ mosses, earned his shield and went to the archives to save his daughter. But there is no gold golem. Even after restarting/reloading the game/area she's still not there (the gold golem). So I'm pretty sure I ran into a bug that one of the Wiki's talks about, where you can't talk to Siegmeyer at Sen's Fortress. I'm not talking about at the gate before you ring both bells, but inside by the 2 lizards at your first encounter with the boulders. When I walk up to him, the message telling you to press A to talk appears, but when I press A nothing happens.
