Just to check which shinkansen are you taking because I think only the Nozomi has a 7 minute connection which can't be used with the JR pass. You need to take the Hikari shinkansen which has a 20 minute connection. Make sure that Ltd Exp is operating. Access to Takayama has been very limited yesterday.
