May 17, 2012 · Hello, During the quest "The Persuit" for the Thiefs Guild I am at the point where I have to find evidence about where Mercer has gone in his house. I got into his house, but when I try to remove the bar from the door I get the message "The bar is locked into place and cannot be opened". To me this seems like a bug.
I was able to do it today, pretty early on (lvl ~25) before joining the Dawnguard using some Fire Storm scrolls, lightning resist potions, and fire enchanted items/magic/shout. I simply gave Mercer Chillrend and the Nightingale Blade. Since I boost my chars to 50 at the start (I refused to start at 1 any longer) it's easy to give Mercer the best of each. UPDATE: After reloading a few times and running around the Riften Manor (aka Mercer's house) I was able to drop the plans on the 2nd floor. (Was unable to drop the plans in the basement where they are found, [and because the sword found in the basement display case is also linked to this mission I put the sword back in the display case].)
